During the same eras, aromatherapy oils and plants were also used by the ancient Chinese civilization as an expression of gratitude to the gods. The use of aromatherapy for therapeutic and cosmetic purposes, however, first emerged in ancient Greek civilizations. During the Roman Empire, aromatherapy found application through post-bath massage techniques. The ancient Romans imported aromatherapy oils from ancient Arab and Indian civilizations. The father of modern aromatherapy as it is practiced today is Dr. René-Maurice Gattefossé.

Aromatherapy; Composed of the Latin words aroma (fragrance) and therapy (treatment), aromatherapy can initially be translated as scent therapy. However, aromatherapy is not limited solely to the effects of fragrance. Of course, scent is a very important part of aromatherapy. Yet, in addition to scent, aromatherapy possesses many other therapeutic effects and areas of use.

Definition of Aromatherapy; Aromatherapy is any form of healing, wellness, and treatment applied using essential oils.

Essential oils are what provide the primary effect in aromatherapy. Essential oils can also be referred to as volatile oils, essences, etheric oils, or aromatic oils. However, the word ‘essential’ provides the most comprehensive definition. This is because the term comes from the Latin-rooted English and French word ‘essential’. ‘Essential’ carries the meaning of the core part or essence of something. Essential oils also carry the essences and vital components (such as vitamins, hormones) of the plants from which they are extracted.

There are also those who call essential oils ‘the soul of the plant’. In my opinion, this is a very fitting definition.

Benefits of Aromatherapy; Aromatherapy is applied as a primary or complementary treatment in many diseases.

In addition, I believe the most significant effect of aromatherapy is providing individuals with the opportunity to lead a higher quality life and reducing the likelihood of contracting illnesses.

In this week’s article, I will share with you a formula used for Anti-Hair Loss and Hair Strengthening.

Rp.

Cedrus atlantica (Atlas Cedar) 6 gtt.

Lavandula angustifolia (True Lavender) 6 gtt.

Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary)          6 gtt.

Ylang ylang (Cananga odoratissima) 4 gtt.

Argan oil                                      40 ml

Essential and carrier oils included in the formula;

Atlas cedar (Cedrus atlantica) belongs to the pine (Pinaceae) family and is a cedar species that grows naturally in North Africa, Algeria, Morocco, and the Atlas Mountains.
