LIME LINIMENT – LINIMENTUM CALCICUM – LINIMENT OLEO CALCAIRE T.K.(1954)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dear colleagues,<\/p>\n

Following the inquiries received during the week regarding Lime liniment, I have chosen this formulation as the formula of the week. As I mentioned at the end of my article, this formula was modified, particularly in France in 2007, with the addition of zinc oxide. In our country, however, it continues to be prescribed in the form I have written below.<\/p>\n

Before moving on to the formula, let us recall the definition of liniment.<\/p>\n

Liniment;<\/strong> liquid or viscous preparations in the form of an emulsion containing soap, oil, or alcohol, used for rubbing or applying onto the skin. The emulsifier is generally soap. It is applied to non-irritated skin.<\/p>\n

In this formula, we will examine a water-in-oil (w\/o) emulsion where the external phase is oil and the internal phase is water.<\/p>\n

Substances in the formula<\/strong><\/p>\n

Huile d\u2019olive-Olive oil-Oleum olivae-Olive oil<\/strong>: History shows that the earliest clear traces of olive oil production date back to the Minoan Civilization in the middle of the Mediterranean, around 4500 BC. The olive tree (Olea europea<\/em>) is a delicate tree. Despite its slow and laborious growth, it has a remarkably long lifespan. The average lifespan of an olive tree is 300-400 years, but olive trees as old as 3,000 years have also been documented. For this reason, the olive tree is known in mythology and botany as the “immortal tree”.<\/p>\n

Olive oil contains approximately 75% oleic acid glycerides. It contains vitamins A and E, as well as small amounts of phytosterols. When taken on an empty stomach in the morning in the amount of 1-2 tablespoons, olive oil acts as an emollient and soothing agent. It particularly has bowel-regulating and cholagogue effects. In cases of gallbladder obstruction or gallstones, 50-100 g is traditionally taken on an empty stomach in the morning, and the regimen is continued for 1 week.<\/p>\n

LIME WATER-EAU DE CHAUX-AQUA CALCARIAE T.K.(1954)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Contains 0.15-0.17% calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2).<\/p>\n

PREPARATION<\/strong>: 1 part quicklime is slaked with 4 parts water. The resulting mass of yogurt-like consistency is mixed and shaken with 50 parts water in a well-closed container. After the mixture settles, the upper aqueous portion is decanted, and the mass remaining at the bottom of the container is vigorously shaken again with 50 parts water for five minutes and left to stand. It is filtered when it is to be used.<\/p>\n

PREPARATION OF THE FORMULA;<\/strong><\/p>\n

Place the olive oil into a dry, colorless bottle. Swirl the bottle to ensure that the oil coats the inner surface of the bottle in a thin film. Then add the filtered lime water onto it. Close the bottle and shake vigorously until a white-cream colored emulsion is formed. Continue the mixing process until the system becomes a uniform emulsion. Label the bottle appropriately to complete the preparation.<\/p>\n

The preparation exhibits a topical emollient effect and soothes inflamed surfaces. It is used to soften crusts and the skin in eczema and psoriasis.<\/p>\n

It is especially used in the treatment of burns as well as acute and subacute eczema.<\/p>\n

This formula, modified especially in France in July 2007, is prescribed as follows:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Breakdown of the formula<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Huile d\u2019olive \u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026 50.00 g<\/strong><\/p>\n

Solut\u00e9 d\u2019hydroxyde de calcium \u2026.. 50.00 g<\/strong><\/p>\n

Oxyde de zinc \u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026.. 10.00 g<\/strong><\/p>\n

After preparing the lime liniment, the formula is completed by gradually adding zinc oxide.<\/p>\n
