Dear colleagues;<\/p>\n

This week, I will talk about soft zinc oxide paste, which is included in the German Pharmacists’ Formulary<\/strong> and widely used as a vehicle\/base in many preparations.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

PASTA ZINCI MOLLIS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rp.<\/strong>   Zinci oxydati crudi ………………..15.0 g<\/p>\n

Olei olivarum ……………………….10.0 g<\/p>\n

Lanolini ………………………..ad   50.0 g<\/p>\n

Uses:<\/strong> Zinc oxide exhibits astringent and mild antiseptic effects. Its indications include protection against sun rays, eczema, abrasions, burns, diaper rash, and irritation. It is also used in Herpes Labialis.<\/p>\n

Olei olivarum (olive oil); with its topical emollient and soothing effect on inflamed surfaces, it is used to remove crusts formed on the skin in conditions such as eczema-psoriasis and to soften the skin.<\/p>\n

Preparation:<\/strong> Zinc oxide is triturated with olive oil in a mortar, and the formulation is completed with the addition of lanolin. It should be noted that the total mass of the formulation will be 50 g.<\/p>\n

We can give the following examples of formulations where PASTA ZINCI MOLLIS is used as the primary vehicle:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rp<\/strong>   Acidi borici ……………………………….1.5 g<\/p>\n

Pastae Zinci mollis DRF ………….ad  50.0 g<\/p>\n

Boric acid contributes to the formula with its mild bacteriostatic and fungistatic effects.<\/p>\n

Rp<\/strong>   Rivanoli ………………………………….. 0.2 g<\/p>\n

Pastae Zinci mollis DRF …………ad   50.0 g<\/p>\n

In this preparation as well, rivanol is included in the formula due to its potent bactericidal effect.<\/p>\n
