Dithranol (lipophilic paste  0.10%, 0.25%,  0.50%  or 1%)<\/p>\n

INDICATIONS<\/p>\n

Used in the chronic or subacute topical treatment of psoriasis. In treatment, the concentration is usually increased up to 1% depending on the patient’s tolerance. Here, treatment is initiated with a lipophilic paste containing 0.10% dithranol. As usual, formulation concentrations are increased up to 0.10%, 0.25%, 0.50%, or 1%.<\/p>\n

Synonyms of the substances in the formula;<\/p>\n

Salicylzuur = Salicylic Acid<\/p>\n

Triglyceriden met middelmatige ketenlengte = Neutral oil = Medium-chain triglycerides<\/p>\n

Zinkoxide = Zinc Oxide<\/p>\n

Witte vaseline = White Vaseline \/ White Petrolatum<\/p>\n

METHOD OF PREPARATION<\/p>\n

Two mortars are used. The active ingredients are weighed individually.<\/p>\n

I \u2013 Zinc oxide is levigated in a mortar with a small amount of medium-chain triglycerides (neutral oil). With the addition of a small amount of white petrolatum, it is mixed in the mortar until a homogeneous appearance is obtained.<\/p>\n

II \u2013 In the second mortar, dithranol and salicylic acid are triturated and softened with the remaining medium-chain triglycerides (neutral oil).<\/p>\n

III \u2013 The mixtures from both mortars are gradually combined.<\/p>\n

IV \u2013 White petrolatum is added until the total mass reaches 100 g, and mixing is continued in the mortar until a homogeneous appearance is achieved.<\/p>\n

Store at a temperature between 2\u00b0 C and 8\u00b0 C.<\/p>\n

ANALYTICAL STANDARDS<\/p>\n

According to analytical standards,  dithranol must be at least 90% and at most 115% of the amount specified in the formula.<\/p>\n

COMMENTS<\/p>\n

Avoid contact with metal and heat by any means. The 1%  salicylic acid included in the formula plays an important role as an inhibitor, preventing the degradation of dithranol by zinc oxide.<\/p>\n
