I do not know what made me think of looking at the Turkish Language Association’s dictionary, but I did;<\/p>\n

The definition in 1st place was  A (person) who does a job to make a living, the opposite of amateur<\/strong>\u2026 then I also looked at Ek\u015fi S\u00f6zl\u00fck, where I encountered the definition One who earns income from the work they do<\/strong>; I did not like either of these two definitions at all\u2026<\/p>\n

The word I was trying to look up was the definition of the term PROFESSIONAL. When it said ‘one who earns income from the work they do’, I could not help but wonder if it was referring to us, that is, pharmacists.<\/p>\n

In short, I would like to say to our professional elders who deem the title HEALTH PROFESSIONAL worthy of us that these definitions do not fit us at all. In short, I do not want to be a Professional of the Profession\u2014meaning, it is very painful that this profession is perceived merely as one practiced to earn a living\u2026 Although even if we wanted to be, we could no longer be, because if you notice the definition, dictionaries define the word professional as a person who earns income from the work they do. Moreover, unfortunately, we are now very, very far from earning an income from this profession.<\/p>\n

I have always preferred being a “Master of the Art of Healing” over being a “Health Professional”.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“SECUNDUM ARTEM”<\/strong>
\nWhat a magical term. “ACCORDING TO OUR ART”<\/strong>
\nI love this term. It reminds me that I am a pharmacist. It expresses that the Profession of Pharmacy is an art of healing. It is magical, almost a divine voice… Coming from the depths.
\nSECUNDUM ARTEM… The pharmacist’s art. The pharmacist puts on the white coat and retreats into the laboratory. At that moment, no one can interfere; while practicing the art, no one can intervene. Putting forth all professional knowledge and skills, compounding the medicine begins. So much so that while practicing this art (provided it is not related to dosage), the pharmacist makes the desired adjustments without even consulting the prescribing physician.<\/p>\n

Professional rules, professional ethics, and deontological regulations have established all these details: which adjustments the Pharmacist can make to the formulation while practicing the art without even informing the prescribing physician, and for which adjustments the pharmacist is obliged to inform the physician.<\/p>\n

If you like, let us examine these briefly.<\/p>\n
