It dissolves in 16 parts of cold and 3 parts of boiling water. It decomposes when in contact with certain organic substances. Its acidified aqueous solution is rapidly reduced by hydrogen peroxide, readily oxidizable substances, and organic matter. It is incompatible with iodides, reducing agents, and most organic substances. Potassium permanganate is an agent that exhibits disinfectant and deodorant actions due to its oxidizing effect. It also exhibits an astringent effect. In vitro, although it exerts a bactericidal effect, its clinical importance as a bactericide is minimal because it is rapidly reduced in body fluids. Concentrated solutions are caustic, while dilute solutions are irritating to mucous membranes. Dilute solutions are astringent. Its solutions are used for cleansing wounds, ulcers, and abscesses, in weeping eczema cases due to its astringent effect, and especially in the treatment of acute dermatoses accompanied by secondary infections. Its solutions are also utilized in cases of bromhidrosis (foul-smelling sweat), fungal infections such as athlete’s foot (tinea pedis), and poison ivy dermatitis. Since it can also break down venoms by oxidation, it can be used against snake and scorpion stings. For this purpose, after cleaning by making an incision at the sting site, potassium permanganate crystals are sprinkled over it. Since it also neutralizes alkaloids and most drugs by oxidation, its solutions can be used for gastric lavage in oral poisonings. Fresh solutions are purple in color. It is generally prepared as a 0.1% aqueous solution, and before use, this solution is diluted 10-fold and applied as a 0.01% (1:10,000) solution. Additionally, it is added to formaldehyde solution to produce formaldehyde vapors, and the resulting formaldehyde vapors are used for the disinfection of rooms and chambers. It should not be forgotten that it may cause skin discoloration and irritation.

Potassium permanganate exerts antiseptic, disinfectant, and deodorant effects depending on its oxidizing property.

CAUTION: Potassium permanganate may explode upon contact with organic or readily oxidizable substances.

Preparation: The calculated amount of distilled water is boiled and allowed to cool slightly. The lukewarm distilled water is gradually added to the potassium permanganate crystals pulverized in a glass mortar and dissolved. When it is to be used, the desired dilution should again be made with boiled and cooled distilled water.

Potassium permanganate should be stored in tightly closed containers at room temperature below 30°C. It must be protected from moisture.

Indications for the preparation;

scorpion sting

insect bites and stings

skin antisepsis

skin fungal infection

dermatitis

disinfection

eczema

tinea pedis

wound care

snake bite

Wishing you a good week…

Specialist Pharmacist Ahmet Nezihi Pekcan
Pekcan Pharmacy – Konya
pekcanecz@gmail.com
Tel: (332) 3520657
http://www.majistralformul.com/

POTASSIUM PERMANGANATE SOLUTION-POTASSIUM PERMANGANATE SOLUTION-POTASSIUM PERMANGANATE SOLUTION CONCENTRATE 1 % (NRF) Dear colleagues; let us recall together this solution that we all know very well, which we prepared in laboratories […]

[147

post-9510","docs","type-docs","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","doc_category-antiseptic-antibacterial-antifungal-antiviral
https://majistraleczacilari.org.tr/en/dokuman-kategori/antiseptic-antibacterial-antifungal-antiviral/
["GET
