With the expected warm weather, an increase in fungal infections should come as no surprise. Fungal infection is a type of infection especially encountered during the summer months. Treatment options with extemporaneous compounding formulas are quite extensive. In this article, we will examine a preparation also known as Whitfield’s Solution<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Acidum salicylicum \u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026…3 g<\/strong><\/p>\n

Solutio antiseptica \u2026\u2026.ad 100 g<\/strong><\/p>\n

Active substances included in the formula:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Acidum benzoicum-Phenylformic acid-Benzoic acid;<\/strong> It is widely found in nature, especially in plants, in free form and as compounds. It is sparingly soluble in cold water, but readily soluble in hot water, alcohol, and ether. Its solubility in water increases in the presence of alkaline substances such as borax and trisodium phosphate. It also dissolves in substances such as chloroform, acetone, carbon tetrachloride, benzene, carbon disulfide, turpentine, and volatile oils. Its aqueous solution exhibits acidic properties and is slightly stronger than acetic acid. It has an irritating effect on the skin, eyes, and mucous membranes; it causes coughing when inhaled. Benzoic acid is an agent that exhibits local fungistatic action. It has long been included in the composition of topical fungistatic preparations.<\/strong>
\nAcidum salicylicum-Salicyls\u00e4ure-Acide salicylique-Salicylic acid;<\/strong> Salicylic acid accelerates desquamation. It exhibits a mild fungicidal effect<\/strong>. Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid (BHA) with the chemical formula C6H4(OH)CO2H. This colorless, crystalline organic acid is generally used as a plant hormone. It is a product of salicin metabolism. It possesses chemical properties similar to acetylsalicylic acid, known as aspirin. It is used in the treatment of fungal species such as tinea barbae, tinea capitis, and tinea cruris.  <\/strong><\/p>\n

Solutio antiseptica;<\/strong><\/p>\n

This formula is prescribed by dermatologists in Germany and is frequently used due to its antiseptic and astringent properties.<\/p>\n

\nLiquoris Aluminii acetici ………..40.0 g
\nAquae destillatae ………….ad. 100.0 g<\/strong><\/p>\n

In this formula, let us recall that spiritus is 96% ethyl alcohol, and liquoris aluminii acetici is Burow’s solution.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Furthermore, this formula can be used on its own, as well as serving as an additive within many compounding formulations under the name solutio antiseptica.<\/p>\n

Modus operandi-(Preparation):<\/strong><\/p>\n

Benzoic acid and salicylic acid are dissolved in the antiseptic solution. For external use in fungal infections.<\/p>\n
