This week, I will share with you a standard formula in lotion form prescribed in Germany for the treatment of ACNE VULGARIS<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

SPIRITUS OXYTETRACYCLINI 1 % SR<\/strong><\/p>\n

Oxytetracyclinum hydrochloricum \u2026 1.0 g<\/strong><\/p>\n

Aqua \u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026 3.0 g<\/strong><\/p>\n

Propylenglycolum \u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026 30.0 g<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ethanolum 90 % (V\/V)\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026ad    100.0 g<\/strong><\/p>\n

If we examine the substances in the formula;<\/strong><\/p>\n

Oxytetracycline hydrochloride-Oxitetraciclina cloridrato-Hydroxytetracyclinum hydrochloricum;<\/strong><\/p>\n

Oxytetracycline hydrochloride is a yellow, odorless, hygroscopic crystalline powder. 1.08 g of oxytetracycline hydrochloride is equivalent to approximately 1 g of oxytetracycline. Oxytetracycline darkens under the effect of sunlight, but no significant loss in its activity is observed. It is freely soluble in water, slightly soluble in alcohol and methyl alcohol, and its solubility in anhydrous alcohol is even lower.<\/p>\n

Oxytetracycline is also used in the treatment of acne vulgaris. Its mechanism of action in this indication has not been fully elucidated, but it is thought to be partly due to its antibacterial activity. Bacteria present on the skin contain the lipase enzyme, which breaks down triglycerides found in sebum into free fatty acids. These released fatty acids have comedogenic properties and can cause inflammatory lesions in acne. Tetracyclines are thought to be effective in acne cases by reducing the number of lipase-producing bacteria or by inhibiting lipase production. Oxytetracycline should be stored at room temperature below 30\u00b0C and in tightly closed, airtight containers. It must be protected from light.<\/p>\n

Propylenglycolum-Propylenglycol-Methyl ethylene glycol;<\/strong> Propylene glycol is an excipient used for various purposes in pharmaceutical preparations. It is used as a solvent and vehicle, especially for drugs that are unstable or insoluble in aqueous media. It is a better solvent than glycerin. Due to its moisturizing properties, it is used instead of glycerin in topical moisturizing preparations. Propylene glycol may cause local irritation to the skin and mucous membranes. It has been reported to cause hypersensitivity reactions. Propylene glycol is a clear, colorless, odorless or faintly scented, hygroscopic liquid with a slight characteristic taste. It is miscible with water, acetone, alcohol, and chloroform, soluble in ether, immiscible with fixed oils, but dissolves some essential oils. It should be stored in a cool place and in airtight containers. It must be protected from light and moisture.<\/p>\n

Preparation:<\/strong> 1 g of oxytetracycline hydrochloride is dissolved in 3 g of boiled and cooled distilled water. The preparation is finalized with the addition of the calculated amount of Propylenglycolum and Ethanolum 90 % (V\/V).<\/p>\n

Usage and storage:<\/strong> The formula, used as an antibacterial dermatological agent in skin infections, is applied to the acne area 3 times a day. The preparation can be stored at 2 to 15 \u00b0C for 3 months.<\/p>\n
