LIQUOR ARNICAE

İçindekiler

Dear colleagues;

For this week’s formula, I wanted to write about LIQUOR ARNICAE, prepared with ARNICA MONTANA, a LEGENDARY HOMEOPATHIC REMEDY.

In homeopathic science, medicines are almost always used internally, with the exception of only a few remedies. Here, ARNICA MONTANA (Mountain arnica) is one of the rare medicines used externally in homeopathy as well.

While writing this formula, I do not want to pass without mentioning HOMEOPATHY, which is considered a very new branch of science in our country, whose regulation is currently in the drafting stage, and which is also known as an art of healing.

What is Homeopathy?…

It is a treatment method based on principles referred to as “treating like with like”. The word homeopathy is derived from the words ‘homoion’ (similar) and ‘pathos’ (suffering). Homeopathy was founded and developed for the first time in history by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843), who was a physician, chemist, and pharmacist.

Homeopathy, whose validity has continued to be demonstrated clinically and experimentally for nearly 200 years, is a system where treatment is gentle and effective.

Medicines are made from natural substances under special standards and work by activating the body’s own self-healing power. What is important in homeopathy is not merely eliminating the symptoms of the disease (e.g., vomiting, diarrhea, etc.), but finding the root cause of these symptoms and treating it. In other words, it is not the disease, but the patient themselves who is treated.

For a successful treatment, it is necessary to view our soul, mind, and body as a whole. The medical history of the disease and the psychological state of the patient are determined at the end of an interview that can last between one and two hours.

If the origin of the disease does not stem from an external factor (e.g., an accident), the onset of the disease generally arises from a psychological and/or mental disturbance. If a person is psychologically happy and resilient, their inner strength (immunity) is so strong that they cannot fall ill. Treating like with like:

An example of treating like with like; We can give coffee as an example. Coffee causes heart palpitations and sleeplessness. Therefore, an illness causing heart palpitations and sleeplessness can be treated with a highly diluted form of coffee. Similarly, when chopping onions for cooking, a person’s eyes water and their nose runs. If onion tincture is administered to someone with a similar ailment, the patient recovers.

After briefly describing homeopathy in this manner, I would like to extend my warmest regards and respect to all my colleagues forming the training group at Istanbul Yeditepe University, of which I am also a part; to the esteemed directors of our association who granted us the opportunity for HOMEOPATHY training at Istanbul Yeditepe University; and of course to the instructors of the CLASSICAL HOMEOPATHY ASSOCIATION, especially Dr. Levent BUDA, Dr. Altunay Söylemez Ağaoğlu, Dr. Gamze Arpacı, and Dr. Gökhan Şentürk.
Dear colleagues, returning to our formula;

LIQUOR ARNICAE

Rp. Tincturae Arnicae ………………. 10.0 parts

Liquoris Aluminii acetici ….  ad.100.0 parts

Arnica montana L. (Mountain arnica), included in the formula, is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Asteraceae (Compositae) family that blooms with yellow flowers between May and August and grows to about 50-60 cm in height. The fresh or dried, whole or chopped flowers of the plant are used.

The flower drug of Arnica montana L. contains approximately 0.04-0.28% essential oil. It contains 4% arnicin, isoquercitrin, astragalin (glycoside), tannic acid, choline, trimethylamine, betaine, carotenoid pigments, phytosterol, flavone, xanthophyll, malic acid, caffeic acid resin, wax, beta-sitosterol, 4-polyacetylene, polyene, thymol, and thymol ethyl ether.

Gargles prepared from the drug are used in diseases of the oral and pharyngeal mucosa, in bleeding following tooth extraction, hematomas, sprains resulting from trauma, cartilage and connective tissue trauma, and externally in insect bites, folliculitis, and the treatment of boils.

Definition of Tincture in the T.P. (Turkish Pharmacopoeia): Tinctures are alcoholic or hydroalcoholic preparations obtained from herbal or animal drugs.

Tinctures are prepared by maceration or percolation. The TURKISH PHARMACOPOEIA describes the preparation of tinctures as follows: Place the coarsely powdered drug or drug mixtures in a vessel with three-fourths of the required amount of menstruum, close it, and keep it in a place at room temperature protected from light, shaking frequently for five days or until the soluble substances are completely exhausted; strain through cloth, press the residue, wash with a sufficient amount of the remainder of the menstruum to bring the tincture to the required volume. Mix the resulting liquid. Leave it in a cool place, sealed and protected from light, for two days, and clarify by decantation or filtration. Take care during these procedures to ensure that the menstruum does not evaporate.

Tinctures should always be stored in sealed, amber containers protected from light and at room temperature.

Since you can find ‘Liquoris Aluminii acetici’, also known as BUROW’S SOLUTION and included in the formula, in my previous articles, I would like to briefly pass over it by reminding you of its antiseptic and astringent properties.

We can briefly summarize where and how to use our preparation formed with ARNICA TINCTURE in the BUROW’S SOLUTION prepared in the formula as follows:

We can easily use our formula, diluted by adding 1 tablespoon into a glass of water, by applying dressings in acute eczema, sprains and hematomas, swelling, contusions, insect bites, folliculitis—in short, in all cases where an antiseptic and astringent effect is required.

I would also like to remind you that by diluting it with water at a one-to-five ratio, it can be used as an oral gargle for bleeding observed after tooth extractions, and in diseases of the oral and pharyngeal mucosa. Wishing you a pleasant week.
