Dear colleagues;
This week, I will talk about soft zinc oxide paste, which is included in the German Pharmacists’ Formulary and widely used as a vehicle/base in many preparations.
PASTA ZINCI MOLLIS
Rp. Zinci oxydati crudi ………………..15.0 g
Olei olivarum ……………………….10.0 g
Lanolini ………………………..ad 50.0 g
Uses: Zinc oxide exhibits astringent and mild antiseptic effects. Its indications include protection against sun rays, eczema, abrasions, burns, diaper rash, and irritation. It is also used in Herpes Labialis.
Olei olivarum (olive oil); with its topical emollient and soothing effect on inflamed surfaces, it is used to remove crusts formed on the skin in conditions such as eczema-psoriasis and to soften the skin.
Preparation: Zinc oxide is triturated with olive oil in a mortar, and the formulation is completed with the addition of lanolin. It should be noted that the total mass of the formulation will be 50 g.
We can give the following examples of formulations where PASTA ZINCI MOLLIS is used as the primary vehicle:
Rp Acidi borici ……………………………….1.5 g
Pastae Zinci mollis DRF ………….ad 50.0 g
Boric acid contributes to the formula with its mild bacteriostatic and fungistatic effects.
Rp Rivanoli ………………………………….. 0.2 g
Pastae Zinci mollis DRF …………ad 50.0 g
In this preparation as well, rivanol is included in the formula due to its potent bactericidal effect.
Wishing you a good week…..
