If we examine the substances in the formula;Zinc oxide – Zinci oxidum – Oxyde de zinc: It is an active ingredient with astringent properties known for its mild antiseptic properties. It is used in eczema, burns, diaper rash, and friction-related skin damage. Zinc oxide ointment contains 20% zinc oxide, and the paste contains 25%. Zinc oxide is not absorbed through the skin, and since it is insoluble in water, it is applied in the form of powder, ointment, lotion, or paste.Glycerini-Glycerol-Glycerine: Used for its solvent, vehicle, preservative, and viscosity-enhancing properties. It is an important moisturizing agent.Aethanolum-Alcoholum-Ethanolum-Spiritus vini:In ancient times, it was called “water of life” and was believed to be a cure for practically every disease. An important characteristic of alcohol is that it is an excellent solvent frequently used in most pharmaceutical formulations. Although ethyl alcohol is effective at concentrations of 60-90%, a 70% concentration (vol/vol) exhibits optimal efficacy for skin antisepsis. Conversely, when the concentration drops below 50%, it largely loses its activity.
Alcohol exerts its effect by coagulating proteins and dissolving lipids.
