Dear Colleagues;On 17.06.2013, in the compounding formula column dedicated to me on Eczacının Sesi, I shared a formula containing Minoxidil, prepared in pharmacies in Germany and used in the treatment of ANDROGENIC ALOPECIA (baldness). This week, I wanted to share with you, as a reminder, this formula formulated in France—the homeland of dermocosmetics—and prepared in pharmacies, which is not very different from the previous formula. Dear Colleagues, in the emails you sent, we shared the difficulties experienced in procuring the active ingredients. I would like to announce here that the problem regarding the procurement of MINOXIDIL, the active substance in this formula, has been resolved and it can now be obtained from supplier companies.Rp.

Ingredients in the formula;
Minoxidil; it has the property of preventing hair loss and stimulating hair growth by increasing blood flow to the scalp. It is thought to exert a therapeutic effect by activating weak hair follicles and prolonging the growth (anagen) phase of the hair cycle.
Rather than stimulating new hair follicles, minoxidil acts by restoring the diameter and depth of existing small follicles to normal and inducing hypertrophy.
Propylene glycol-Methylethylene glycol-Methyl glycol-Propylene glycol; It is an excipient used for various purposes in pharmaceutical preparations. It is used as a vehicle for cosmetic products. Due to its moisturizing properties, it is used instead of glycerin in topical moisturizing preparations. Propylene glycol can cause local irritation to the skin and mucous membranes. It is miscible with water, acetone, alcohol, and chloroform; soluble in ether; immiscible with fixed oils, but sometimes dissolves essential oils. It should be stored in a cool place and in airtight containers. It should be protected from light and moisture.Modus operandi (preparation)The minoxidil-propylene glycol mixture is added onto 30 ml of distilled water and 105 ml of 90° alcohol in a tared, dark-colored 200 ml glass bottle, and the mixture is stirred in a water bath (bain-marie) until it dissolves in the alcohol to form a homogeneous solution.Labeling: A red label stating “For external use, shake well” should be affixed to the preparation, and it should be stored in a cool place protected from light.APPLICATION: For androgenic alopecia, the dosage is applied to the scalp as 1 ml twice daily.
- Distribute the required amount of solution to the area where hair growth is desired by massaging from the center outward to the edges. When applying, try to absorb the medication using gentle circular motions rather than pressing hard.
- Do not wash or shampoo your hair for four hours after applying the formula to the area.
- Wash your hands after applying the formula so that hair growth does not unintentionally occur on any other part of your body.
- After applying the solution, do not try to dry it with a hairdryer to dry your scalp; a hairdryer may reduce the effectiveness of the medication.
- Since minoxidil causes staining, you should wait two to four hours after applying the medication for it to dry completely. If there is a rash, sunburn, etc., on the scalp, you must consult your doctor before applying the medication.
WARNINGS:It is contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation. It should be noted that the hypotensive effect may increase in patients using diuretics and other antihypertensive medications. Therefore, patients with renal failure and dialysis patients must use it with caution.
It should not be recommended for patients under 18 and over 65 years of age.
Rare side effects include:

Dermatitis,
are side effects that may occur.Stability:While it can be stored without spoiling in a dark glass bottle at 15 °C for 6 months, it can be stored without spoiling in a dark glass bottle at 8 °C for 1 year.
