Eczema Cream Prepared with La Roche-Posay

Dear Colleagues,

This week, I will publish a magistral formula study that can be considered interesting. In this formulation, I will share a formula prescribed in France where La Roche-Posay, a brand well known to OUR COLLEAGUES WHO INCLUDE DERMOCOSMETIC PRODUCTS in their pharmacies, is used as a vehicle, and which also contains a proprietary medicinal product whose active ingredient is a cortisone (Diprosone Cream).

In this preparation used in the treatment of eczema, we will see that dermocosmetic products can also contribute to the magistral formulations we prepare in our pharmacies.

Acide salicylique ………………………… 2.0 g

Coaltar saponine ………….…………  5.0 g

Crème Diprosone  ………….….… 30.0 g

Onguent La Roche-Posay …..63.0 g

Active ingredients in the formula;

Acide salicylique-Salicylic acid-Acidum salicylicum; Salicylic acid is a keratolytic agent (promoting the separation or peeling of the stratum corneum of the epidermis). It is used in the treatment of diseases characterized by hyperkeratosis and skin flaking such as dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, ichthyosis, psoriasis, and acne. Salicylic acid accelerates desquamation (the peeling and flaking of the outer surface of anything). It exhibits a mild fungicidal effect.

Coaltar saponine-Goudron de Houille-Pix Lithanthracis-Coal tar; Its composition is quite a complex compound. It is prepared by the dry distillation of bituminous coal. It has a naphthalene-like odor and a pungent taste. It is a thick, dark brown, syrup-like liquid. It solidifies upon contact with air. While it dissolves in chloroform and benzene, it is partially soluble in ether and alcohol. In addition to dandruff and psoriasis, it is included in the formulation of medicinal shampoos, ointments, and soaps used to kill and remove head lice. It is effective against psoriasis and other keratotic lesions.

Crème Diprosone– It is a proprietary product from Schering-Plough containing 0.05% betamethasone. Proprietary medicinal products containing Betamethasone under various brand names are available in our country. Betamethasone and its derivatives are anti-inflammatory or immunosuppressive drugs. Betamethasone valerate is one of the derivatives of betamethasone used for topical application. It is used against inflammation observed in corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses. It exhibits anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive effects.

Onguent La Roche-Posay;

Tween 80 …………… 1%

PEG ……………………… 59%

Propylene glycol .…..37%

Eau ……………………..3%

In this formula, La Roche-Posay cream was preferred because of its hydrophilic, oil-free, non-pore-clogging dermocosmetic properties.

Preparation of the formula

Salicylic acid is thoroughly triturated in a mortar. La Roche-Posay cream is gradually added to it, mixing thoroughly each time. Then, Diprosone cream is added and the mixing process in the mortar is continued. Finally, with the addition of the coal tar weighed on a watch glass, the formula is completed by mixing until the cream becomes homogeneous.

Usage

It is used in the treatment of eczema, especially on sensitive skin and the facial area.

Wishing you a good week….
