SPIRITUS CONTRA PRURITUM in the Treatment of Eczema

Dear colleagues this week, we will examine together the second of the Anthralin-containing formulations that I began writing about last week.

Anthralin, which is used therapeutically for various conditions (such as alopecia areata, eczema, psoriasis), is included this week in an anti-pruritic (itch-relieving) formulation for hand and axillary eczema.

SPIRITUS CONTRA PRURITUMRp.

Thymoli ………………………0.25 g
Mentholi ……………………..0.5 g
Anthrasoli ……………………1.2 g
Glycerini ………………………2.5 g
Spiritus ………………….ad 25.0 g

I selected the names of the active substances from Latin words, which are the common language of pharmacy.
If the formula title is translated,ANTI-PRURITIC ALCOHOLIC SOLUTION it will be understood as such.

It is an antibacterial, anti-pruritic solution widely used in Germany, hygienic, with a thyme scent—though it may cause discomfort for those who dislike this aroma—indicated for various skin problems and dermatological disorders (especially eczema, etc.).

It can also be used in the underarms.

If we look at the active ingredients in the formula;Thymol:It is a substance known for its antibacterial, antifungal, antiseptic, and deodorizing effects, as well as being a counterirritant (applied to induce mild irritation in order to relieve localized inflammation in the skin).Menthol: It is an antiseptic substance that produces a cooling sensation when applied to the skin and exerts a mild analgesic effect; due to this property, it is used against urticaria. It generates coolness by dilating blood vessels in the skin.Anthralin: It exerts its effect by reducing the mitotic rate of the epidermis. It is primarily used in psoriasis and alopecia areata. In this formula, it is used in the treatment of pruritic eczema.Glycerin: It is preferred in this formula to moisturize the skin and provide viscosity.Spiritus (Alcohol): 70% Ethyl Alcohol is included in this formula as a solvent and for antiseptic purposes.PREPARATION:Thymol, menthol, and anthralin are dissolved in alcohol, and finally, glycerin is added to complete the preparation.

Wishing you a healthy week…
