Lidocaine and ethacridine ointment – Onguent à l’éthacridine et la lidocaïne
Dear colleagues; this week I will discuss a formula used for minor and moderate burns, in other words, 1st and 2nd degree burns, which promotes burn healing in a very short time with a miraculous effect.
Ethacridini lactas …………………….. 0.07 g
Lidocaini hydrochloridum ……………. 0.35 g
Oleum Jecoris aselli ………………….. 7.00 g
Unguentum simplex ……………ad 70.00 g
Ethacridini lactas, also known as Rivanol, is an antibacterial substance that exhibits a bactericidal effect on many topical bacterial species. Topical Rivanol is used to eliminate germs on the skin or prevent their proliferation. Rivanol acts by disrupting the DNA synthesis of bacteria.
Lidocaine is a local anesthetic medication. Lidocaine is generally used to relieve itching, soothe burning sensations or skin infections, and as an anesthetic in minor surgical procedures or dentistry.
Oleum jecoris aselli (COD LIVER OIL); is a nutrient source rich in vitamins A and D. It is predominantly obtained from the fresh liver of codfish. Ointments containing cod liver oil are used for various ulcerated superficial wounds.
Unguentum simplex; let us recall the TP (1974) recipe for the simple ointment used as the vehicle (base) in this formula:
Anhydrous lanolin ………………… 50 g
Solid paraffin ………………….. 50 g
Cetostearyl alcohol ……………. 50 g
White or yellow vaseline …… 850 g
The ingredients are melted in a water bath and stirred until homogeneous.
PREPARATION;
Finely powdered Rivanol and Lidocaine are triturated in a mortar with a small portion of the simple ointment. The cod liver oil and the remaining amount of simple ointment are added gradually to complete the formula.
