SPIRITUS CRINALIS III, the third of the formulations used in the treatment of alopecia areata, is the subject of this week’s article.

Rp. Chlorali hydrati ………………….. 2.5 g
Spiritus camphorati …………….10.0 g
Spiritus diluti ……………… ad 100.0 g
Chloral hydrate is known for its hypnotic and sedative effects. Its use in this formula is due to its hyperemic effect, meaning it is used to increase blood supply to the hairy tissue more than normal. It has a vasodilatory effect.
As you will recall, under the name SPIRITUS CRINALIS I in the first week’s formulation, I wrote about SPIRITUS CAMPHORATUS and SPIRITUS DILUTUS. Therefore, I recommend that colleagues who do not remember review the first week’s formula again.
Preparation and storage:
Chloral hydrate weighed on a watch glass is crushed in a glass mortar, dissolved with a small amount of dilute alcohol, mixed with the prepared camphor tincture, and made up to 100 g with the remaining part of the dilute alcohol. The solution filtered through filter paper should be stored at room temperature below 30 degrees Celsius and in tightly closed, airtight containers protected from light.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
It is applied by friction in circular motions to the affected area of the scalp in the morning and evening using a cotton pad until the area turns slightly red. It should not be forgotten that hair follicles may be damaged by excessive rubbing.
