This formula I have published is designed for the laboratory work of pharmacy students in France and is also recognized as an internationally accepted preparation used for sedative-hypnotic purposes. Since the active ingredients in the formula were translated from French, they are listed with their original names.Examining the active ingredients in the formula:

Chloral hydrate-Trichloroethylidene glycol-Hydrate de chloral T.K.;It is hypnotic and sedative. Chloral hydrate(CCl3-CH(OH)2), is a sleep-inducing medication. When taken in therapeutic doses, it provides a natural sleep lasting up to eight hours. However, since the drug has side effects on the skin and mucous membranes, it should be taken according to a doctor’s advice.

Chloral hydrate crosses the gastric barrier very quickly and takes effect in half an hour. It is a transparent crystalline substance. It has a characteristic odor and a bitter taste. It dissolves in 0.25 parts water, 0.20 parts alcohol, 3 parts chloroform, and 0.5 parts ether. It should not be used in cardiac, gastritis, liver, and kidney diseases. When used for longer than two weeks, tolerance develops to its hypnotic effects. Externally, it is used for rheumatism, sciatica, neuralgia, and pruritus (itching). The lethal dose is 10 grams.

Due to its high image quality and absence of known harm, demand for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is steadily increasing today. However, due to the presence of loud noise, the requirement for complete immobility during the procedure to obtain clear images, and the necessity of entering a narrow tubular space, chloral hydrate syrups are used for sedation purposes, particularly in children under 8 years of age and in adults who cannot remain still, have intellectual disabilities, or suffer from claustrophobia.

For this purpose, oral 75–100 mg/kg chloral hydrate preparations are widely preferred in pediatric patients today.Eau potable-Aqua fontana-Trinkwasser-Drinking water;Boiled and cooled distilled water should preferably be used.Sirop simple-Simple syrup T.K.1954;Recall my article on simple syrup published in Eczacının Sesi on 31.12.2012.Solute alcoolique d’esence de menthe-Oleum menthae piperitae; In this formula, peppermint essence is used to mask the bitter taste of chloral hydrate.Preparation; Chloral hydrate is dissolved in drinking water. The solution containing alcoholic peppermint essence is added to freshly prepared simple syrup. It is then mixed with the chloral hydrate solution to complete the preparation. 20 grams of this formula contains 1 g of chloral hydrate.

The preparation should be stored in a cool place and in closed containers. For adults, 3 tablespoons should be taken within 24 hours for sedative and hypnotic purposes.

Wishing you a good week…
