Cire blanche d’abeille – White beeswax – White wax – Wachs, gebleichtes [ABDATA-SK; Ph.Eur.];White beeswax acts as a thickening agent in creams and ointments and as a stabilizer in water-in-oil (w/o) type emulsions. In the pharmaceutical industry, it is also used for polishing sugar-coated tablets and adjusting the melting point of suppositories. White beeswax is prepared by bleaching yellow beeswax, obtained from the honeycombs of the honeybee (Apis mellifera) of the Apidae family, with oxidizing agents. It is a mixture of various esters at a ratio of 70-75%. The main ester in its composition is myristyl palmitate. Other substances in its composition include free fatty acids, carbohydrates, free wax alcohols, and stearic esters of fatty acids. It occurs as tasteless, white or slightly yellowish flakes or fine granules. It is soluble in chloroform, ether, warm carbon disulfide, fixed and volatile oils; slightly soluble in ethanol (95%); and practically insoluble in water. It should be stored in tightly closed containers. It must be protected from light. When white beeswax is heated above 150°C, it undergoes esterification, its acid value decreases, and its melting point rises. It is incompatible with oxidizing agents.Huile d’olive- Olive oil- Oleum olivae- Azeite- Olive oil;Olive oil is included in the composition of depot-action parenteral formulations. It is used as a vehicle in such injectable oily suspensions. In addition, it is used in the preparation of liniments, ointments, plasters, and soaps. Topically, it exhibits an emollient effect and soothes inflamed surfaces. It is used to soften crusts and the skin in eczema and psoriasis. It is also used to soften earwax. Internally, it has nutritious and mild laxative effects. It can also be administered as a rectal injection (100-500 ml at ≈ 32°C) to soften feces. Olive oil is a fixed oil obtained by cold pressing the ripe fruits of the olive plant (Olea europaea) from the Oleaceae family. It is a mixture of glycerides of oleic acid (83.5%), palmitic acid (9.4%), linoleic acid (4%), stearic acid (2%), and arachidic acid (0.9%). It is a pale yellow or slightly greenish-yellow oil. It has a faint, characteristic odor and taste. It may become solid or partially solid at low temperatures. It is practically insoluble in alcohol; miscible with carbon disulfide, chloroform, ether, and petroleum ether. It should be stored at temperatures not exceeding 40°C in well-filled, airtight containers protected from light. Olive oil to be used in parenteral preparations must be stored in glass containers.Eau distillée de rose- Rose (Rosa damascena) distillate- Rosa damascena flower water- Rosa damascena flower water [INCI];In our country, when rose is mentioned, the Isparta rose, namely Rosa damascena Mill., comes to mind. It is a plant from the Rosaceae (Rosoideae) family in the form of a thorny shrub or small tree, reaching up to 1-2 meters in height, with pleasantly fragrant flowers. It is used as an ornamental plant in gardens. In Turkey, it is cultivated in the Isparta and Burdur regions to produce rose oil. Its leaves are imparipinnate, with 3-7 leaflets and stipules. Its flowers, which bloom toward the end of May, are pink, double-petaled, numerous, and strongly scented. Rose oil (oleum rosae) is obtained from the petals by steam distillation. Rose oil contains terpenic compounds, geraniol, and eugenol. Rose oil is used in perfumery and cosmetics as a fragrance fixative and scenting agent. Approximately 1 kg of rose oil is obtained from 3500-4000 kg of flowers. The aqueous layer remaining at the bottom of the distillate collected during rose oil production, known as rose water (aqua rosae), is also used as a medicinal drug. This drug, which has anti-inflammatory properties, is particularly used in ophthalmology to treat eye redness and itching. Rose petals (flores rosae) are another drug used fresh. Its composition contains tannins, quercetol, and anthocyanosides. The extract prepared from rose petals, known as concrete, is a valuable raw material for perfumery and industry. Antitussive, hypnotic, antidiabetic, anti-HIV, and bronchial smooth muscle relaxant effects of the Isparta rose have been reported.Calendula teinture- Tinctura Calendulae- Marigold (Calendula officinalis L.) fluid extract- Ringelblumen-Tinktur [DAC];Pot marigold (Calendula officinalis L.) is an annual or biennial plant of the Asteraceae family, with an average height of 50 cm and an unpleasant resinous odor. It blooms between June and October. The flowers are harvested between June and August. It grows in Istanbul and the Black Sea region. Although it grows in Turkey, it is among the plants rarely used medicinally there. It is a Mediterranean plant. It is widely favored as a folk medicine in Europe. Calendula flower (Calendulae Flos) is prepared by drying the flowers of the plant. The fresh or dried, whole or chopped flowers without calyces, harvested after full blooming, are used. The herbal drug is defined in the French Pharmacopoeia. Calendulae Flos is also used fresh, but such use is not covered by the pharmacopoeia. There are monographs on calendula flower prepared by Commission E, ESCOP, and WHO. The composition of the drug includes triterpenes (oleanolic acid glycosides), triterpene alcohols, sesquiterpenes, carotenoids, quercetin and flavonoids, polysaccharides, and sterols. Calendulae Flos is used topically in the treatment of inflammatory conditions of the skin and mucous membranes. The drug has a wound-healing promoting effect. There is no restriction regarding the duration of use. It is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to plants of the Asteraceae family. No drug interactions have been reported for calendula flower. No adverse effects preventing its use during pregnancy and lactation have been reported. It does not impair the ability to drive or operate machinery. There are no known risks associated with overdose. Calendula extract is prepared from the flowers of the plant. As a folk remedy, it is applied to the skin and hair for its healing properties. For this purpose, it has long been used for skin cleansing, softening the skin, and treating various skin conditions. Calendulae Flos is used topically in the treatment of inflammatory conditions of the skin and mucous membranes. The drug also has a wound-healing promoting effect. There is no restriction regarding the duration of use.Sodium borate- Medicinal borax- Sodium tetraborate decahydrate- Borate de soude- Borax- Sodium borate (2) [INCI; NF];Sodium borate (borax) is used alongside boric acid as a buffer and antimicrobial agent in eye drops. It is also used as an emulsifying agent in creams. Sodium borate has also been used in veterinary medicine for its antiseptic, detergent, and astringent activity on mucous membranes.ATTENTION! Neither boric acid nor borax is used for systemic effect (internally).It is a crystalline powder, colorless or near-white in color. It effloresces. It is soluble in water; freely soluble in boiling water; freely soluble in glycerol. The pH of its 4% aqueous solution ranges between 9.0 and 9.6.
According to the British Pharmacopoeia (BP), Sodium Borate and Sodium Tetraborate are official synonyms. According to USNF 27 (Sodium Borate), sodium borate occurs as odorless, transparent, colorless crystals or a white crystalline powder. Its solutions are alkaline to phenolphthalein. It effloresces in warm, dry air. It is soluble 1:16 in water, 1:1 in boiling water, and 1:1 in glycerol; insoluble in alcohol. It must be stored in airtight containers.Preparation of the formula;Borax is dissolved in the calculated amount of rose water. Calendula tincture is added. Olive oil is heated and mixed with white beeswax in a porcelain evaporating dish over a hot water bath. In a mortar, the aqueous phase is gradually added to the oil phase and stirred until the mixture becomes homogeneous and cools, thus completing the preparation.
