Lime Liniment Cream

Lime liniment cream – CRÈME OLÉOCALCAIRE

Dear Colleagues, this formula that I cited from the French Pharmacopoeia provides a soothing effect on inflamed surfaces when applied topically in dermatology due to its emollient and protective properties. It is used to soften crusts and skin in eczema and psoriasis. It is particularly used in the treatment of burns as well as acute and subacute eczema. It has lipophilic properties and is classified as a semi-solid preparation.

Formula:

Calcium hydroxide solution         25.00 g

Refined almond oil                        25.00 g

Lanolin                                            25.00 g

White Petrolatum                                 25.00 g

Preparation of the formula:

Calcium hydroxide solution and almond oil are mixed by shaking vigorously and brought to 300 C. In a dish, lanolin and white petrolatum are melted in a water bath at 30C. This mixture is poured into a mortar preheated to 300 C and stirred until solidification begins. Then, the previously prepared calcium hydroxide and almond oil mixture is gradually added to the mixture in the mortar and stirred until a homogeneous mixture is achieved.

Appearance: Pale yellow cream color with a characteristic lanolin (wool fat) odor.

Precautions: Do not work at temperatures above 300 C.

Wishing you a good week…
